Your Complete Guide to Facials For Glowing Skin During The Holidays

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

As the holidays approach, you may find yourself wondering how to keep your skin healthy and glowing while taking care of all of those other holiday preparations.

Well, you’re in luck! Keep reading for some tips on keeping your skin radiant throughout the season.

More About Facials

A facial is a treatment commonly offered in salons, spas, or clinics. This treatment is intended to:

  • Improve circulation

  • Exfoliates or remove dead skin cells

  • Moisturize or hydrate skin

  • Help with common skin issues, such as dryness and acne

There are different types of facials designed to address specific needs and to deliver specific results. For instance, some customized facials incorporate certain substances or technology, such as:

  • Oxygen

  • High-frequency micronutrients

  • Dermaplaning

  • LED light

And if you want to achieve more dramatic results, facials can be combined with other treatments like:

  • Chemical peels

  • Microdermabrasion

  • Radiofrequency (RF)

  • Microneedling

So long as they’re performed by a well-trained aesthetician who utilizes the right products and techniques, facials are one of the safest and most effective approaches to keep your skin in tiptop shape.

What to Expect During a Facial

A typical facial can last about an hour on average, and here’s what typically happens during the procedure:

  1. Your aesthetician will examine your skin thoroughly and discuss your concerns and help you decide on the right facial.

  2. Once you decide to move forward with the treatment, your aesthetician will gently cleanse your skin.

  3. They’ll then exfoliate and if necessary, extract blackheads, whiteheads, and all the other kinds of gunk clogging your pores.

  4. Your aesthetician will then massage your décolletage, face and neck, and may apply a treatment mask to soothe the skin afterwards.

  5. Finally, your aesthetician will finish off the treatment by applying the appropriate serum or moisturizer, or perhaps even some sunblock.

Aftercare

After the treatment, the skin will be slightly inflamed, but that should be gone after two hours. Most facials require no downtime, so you can go back to your normal routine right after.

However, it is best to leave your skin alone for the rest of the day if you want to achieve maximum benefits. Giving your skin a break from your skin care routine (and from makeup) will help it to recover faster.

You can get a facial every couple of weeks or once a month, depending on your skincare concerns. Keep in mind that getting facials regularly can help you maintain optimal results too.
